Self regulation- observation
Body functions and the control of it is a major part of social emotional development. When a toddler begins to learn how to control her body functions that is a big deal. Yesterday Ajani went to the potty in the afternoon and sat on it because he saw his aunt using the toilet. His aunt attempted to pull down his pull-up but was not able to do it on time and he peed while she was pulling it down. He is making the connection in his brain with the physical movement(action) of when he needs to pee. That is a great start for him and he is not under pressure or is not being stressed about it. Potty training must be a gradual process and must be stress free. Just like any other social emotional skill your infant needs time and repetition to practice in order to master the new skill.
