Out of the home care . If you are taking your baby to a sitter or a childcare program it is important that the care giver is trained in the area infants/toddler care . The research has shown that many people who are working with infants/toddlers are not train in infant/toddler development and as a result they are not giving them the skills that they need to be successful in kindergarten. As a parent it is important that you learn what your child should be doing at the different stages of development and help your infant/toddler along the developmental mile stone. You should also ask questions about the activities that they are doing. You can get a note book for communication and you and the teacher can communicate that way you can do it through email also or if you center has a face book page.
Here are a few questions that you can start with :
Do you fell that my child is on her developmental level for her age?
What are some activities that are done to develop her fine motor skills (finger, wrist and eyes)
What is done to develop her gross muscles ( large muscles)
Do you read to the babies individually ?
How often do you read to them ?
Do you encourage them to be independent ?
You should also check to see if they have board books and are they in hand reach for the baby.
