Life skills-Economics

Teaching young children the value of economics is critical for later years . When your children begin asking for items when you go  to the store you will need to teach them that you cannot get everything that you they want . The child will begin to cry but you need to be strong and once the crying is over you need to explain in a calm voice that going to the stores does not mean that you need to purchase what they want. After a few times the child will get the concept . This is when you help young children to develop self-discipline.We need to help young children  to learn  life skills .Learning to manage money is a very important skill for children to learn .

Frontal lobe -Critical thinking -

It is very important that we allow our infants/toddlers to develop their thinking skills .For example it  if you are at the playing ground and the child wants to climb on the ladder you should allow her to figure it out .Stand close to the area and be a support but do not say "John this is what you need to do ".If the child cannot figure it out then you should ask "do you need help" if the is able to speak she will respond and if she is is not able to speak she is learning that when she has a challenge after trying she should ask for help. This will allow her to take initiative ,this is a skill that is needed for life  here are some tips.

Fine motor skills-the use of scissors

It is very important that your pre-schooler learn how to use a scissor . There are many skills your young child is developing when using a scissor. You fist need to provide an age appropriate scissor for the child . Then you introduce the scissors for the child and then you will show the child how to hold the scissors . You must introduce the child to cutting with strips of hard stock paper.A lot of these come in the mail box as junk mail .It will take a while for the child to learn how to hold the scissors ,you will need to put their finger into the scissors . Show the child how to open and close the scissors with her fingers in the position . Hold the strip of paper for the child and help them to guide the scissors.Once the child learns to cut straight you will see that big smile the first time the child id able to use the scissors to make a cut . Allow the child to perfect cutting straight and when she is able to cut stock paper you will then introduce magazine paper . When the child is able to cut that texture you will introduce the idea of cutting out a picture . This process will take a few months you have to be intentional in developing skills.

Open conversation -relationship

Having open conversation with our children is very important  it builds trust and positive relationship. This allows our children to feel comfortable  in  discussing  anything with us .As children get older they  need to be able to seek guidance from you and the adults around them . You do not want them getting all their information from the internet and their friends because there is a possibility that it is incorrect information . As children get older middle school their peers begin to talk about the opposite sex and that is a discussion you want to be a part of in order to guide them .

Fine motor skills -is she ready

Fine motor skills are also very important muscles that must be developed starting from infancy . Movements of the body is controlled by the cerebullum ,a section of the brain . It is critical that your baby is using those fine muscles ,in the fingers, wrist ,eyes and the mouth .
  • We recommend that your baby has things to hold, grab ,tug, pull
  • Your baby should not be sucking a pacifier after 10 months
  • Your baby should be giving small snacks that she can pick up and put in her mouth and begin chewing  around 7 months (small solids)
  • The baby should be introduced to a cup ,along with her bottle or sippy cup and a straw
  • The baby should have access to writing tools they love to scribble starting at 16 months
  • You also need to play children music because the words are clear and it allows the baby to sing along with the song
  • You must speak with your baby in whole sentences example : it the baby is pointing to an object  instead of just giving it to her - you would say do you want your blue cup ? You are giving your baby receptive language  which is helping to develop the speech area of the brain.
  • There are certain toys your baby should have that will help with these skills
