Fine motor skills-the use of scissors

It is very important that your pre-schooler learn how to use a scissor . There are many skills your young child is developing when using a scissor. You fist need to provide an age appropriate scissor for the child . Then you introduce the scissors for the child and then you will show the child how to hold the scissors . You must introduce the child to cutting with strips of hard stock paper.A lot of these come in the mail box as junk mail .It will take a while for the child to learn how to hold the scissors ,you will need to put their finger into the scissors . Show the child how to open and close the scissors with her fingers in the position . Hold the strip of paper for the child and help them to guide the scissors.Once the child learns to cut straight you will see that big smile the first time the child id able to use the scissors to make a cut . Allow the child to perfect cutting straight and when she is able to cut stock paper you will then introduce magazine paper . When the child is able to cut that texture you will introduce the idea of cutting out a picture . This process will take a few months you have to be intentional in developing skills.
