Observation-Toxic stress

Monday  September 21st
Time: 5:45pm
A mother  with a child in a stroller and a three year old

This mother was walking with  ahead on the boy and she was going so fast he was not able to keep up with her. She kept turning back her head and would yell "you need to walk up ". I stood ther for a few minutes observing.

This kind of behavior is very unhealthy for this young child . Children were not asked to be born and so when we have a child we should cherish that life by letting them know that all lives matter. The child is learning that there is a cruel world and that is the treatment that he should expect and that is how he will come to treat people also. The brain does not forget any experience therefore you should be intentional and give positive experiences to young children.

Father involvement -during the infant/toddler years

It is very important for a male figure to be involed in your child's life in a positive way. The resach shows that there are many benfits:
  • Child will have a good crasp on language skills
  • The will have better emotional control
  • The father feels confident about parenting
  • Child enjoys school more
  • Child will less likely to part take in criminal behavior
  • They are more likely to enjoy school
  • Children are protected from negative bahavior
  • Children tend to be less aggressive
Mothers play a role in fathers involvement
  • Mothers must be supportive view them as being competent
  • Provide encouragement and allow parenting to be seen as a joint venture
  • Child suffers when there is not support for both parent
  •  If you are not together allow the other parent to play her role

Communication -Quality care for infants /toddlers

Out of the home care . If you are taking your baby to a sitter or a childcare program it is important that the care giver is trained in the area infants/toddler care . The research has shown that many people who are working with infants/toddlers are not train in infant/toddler development and as a result they are not giving them the skills that they need to be successful in kindergarten. As a parent it is important that you learn what your child should be doing at the different stages of development and help your infant/toddler  along the developmental mile stone. You should also ask  questions  about the activities that they are doing. You can get a note book for communication and you and the teacher can communicate that way you can do it through email also or if you center has a face book page.
Here are a few questions that you can start with :
Do you fell that my child is on her developmental level for her age?
What are some activities that are done to develop her fine motor skills (finger, wrist and eyes)
What is done to develop her gross muscles ( large muscles)
Do you read to the babies individually ?
How often do you read to them ?
Do you encourage them to be independent ?
You should also check to see if they have board books  and are they  in  hand reach for the baby.

Routines

Routine is an activity  that is done over and over  about the same time . Here are some examples of routine:
  • waking up  and getting ready
  • Fist you get up
  • Shower,brush your teeth
  • Eat breakfast
  • Get dress
  • Must leave at a certain time
These are not just routines they are teaching moments for your young child who is new to the world and you are teaching her how the world works. Here are a few ideas to manage your morning routine smoothly .
  • Have your child help you to take out his clothes the night before  for older children you can have them pick out their clothes for the week and put them on hangers
  • Get children up at least an hour before it is time to leave this prevents rushing
  • this will allow the child enough time to get prepared for the day
  • Talk with your child about the time that you have to leave and why you have to leave at that time
  • Do not practice  taking your child to school late because as they group up they will do the same thing and will not be able to  maintain employment.
I am usually early to get to places because you  want to give yourself enough time for delays and my teen-age daughter would always say "mom why do you always have to leave so early". A couple weeks ago we were running late for an appointment and she said"this is the first time we will be late for anything". Children do observe and is learning and depend on you to guide them.

Focus-Brain development

2.5 years .

Young children move around a lot because that is what they are suppose to do. However learning how to stay still for a few minutes is critical as that skill is needed before you turn 3 yeas old. Many children get to school and are not able to sit for a few minutes, they cannot focus and gets distracted easily. Usually gets labeled as having ADD Attention Deficit Disorder.

To avoid this you must begin to get your baby ready the day that you bring her home from the hospital.Reading ,music and developmental toys.

I am focusing on the train set for this blog. You will introduce your baby to a train set at nine months give her two pieces of the tracts a long piece and a short piece. She will take a while before she is able to connect them you should also allow her to try and figure it out if she is frustrated you can ask,do you need help she will nor be able to answer.

Dressing

You should dress children comfortable they are in daycare to play and exlpore freely.
If they cannon manage a belt do not put one on them .You want your child to have success this allows them to feel competent .Teach them to put their hat in there sleeve. For their gloves you can cut a string put a hole into booth gloves tie the string to them and them put them through the goat with the gloves  dangling from the sleeves. This will save you a lot of agrivation.
have a spot for book bag ,shoes and coat. Have children go to bed at a specific time because the brain needs enough rest in order to develop. Rest is critical .
